Beyond Impact: Mending A Broken System

You are formally invited to join us for the Beyond Impact: Mending a Broken System Symposium Brunch.

Date and Time: Saturday, February 21, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Location: Highline Community College

This gathering is not simply an event. It is a moment of collective reckoning and reflection, a space where we will confront the profound and lasting impact of our judicial system on youth and families. Together, we will look directly at the true cost of incarceration, the complexities of sentencing, and the heartbreaking reality of young people being charged and treated as adults.

Throughout the day, you will hear powerful lived experiences that remind us of

who is most affected by these decisions. You will witness poetry that speaks to survival and resilience. You will receive essential information from the ACLU about knowing your rights. You will learn from the Institute for Black Justice as they share critical findings from the Gideon Project.

This symposium is an opportunity to learn, to speak, to connect, and to take part in a united effort to pursue meaningful change. We cannot rebuild a broken system without the wisdom, compassion, and leadership of people like you. Your presence matters. Your perspective matters. Your commitment to justice matters.

Please RSVP as seating is limited https://www.eventbrite.com/e/beyond-impact-mending-a-broken-system-tickets-1975219914937?aff=oddtdtcreator

Create The Change You Want To See

Event Details

We are hosting our first annual “Create The Change You Want To See” Auction to raise essential funds to sustain and grow our Re-Entry program—and to secure a dedicated safe space where our youth can gather, learn, and thrive.

I.A.M.U. (Independent Achievements for Minority Youth), a grassroots nonprofit dedicated to uplifting at-risk youth and young adults in King, Pierce, and Thurston Counties. Our work focuses on providing mentorship, job readiness training, cultural enrichment, safe spaces, music programs, sex trafficking prevention and support, violence intervention, and critical re-entry services for youth transitioning out of detention, incarceration, and other systems.

Our programs aim to break cycles of violence, incarceration, and exploitation by offering consistent support, real-world skills, and positive alternatives that help youth build strong futures.

Every dollar raised through this auction directly supports youth who are often overlooked and underserved. Your contribution helps fund not only day-to-day programs, but also vital re-entry services that ensure young people leaving detention have mentorship, job pathways, educational support, and community connections to help them successfully rebuild their lives.
