OCTOBER 2025

October is National Domestic Violence Month, this year I.A.M.U is standing with Rise Up Against Domestic Violence. All month we will share Courages stories from many survivors.

Domestic Violence: The Hidden Damage, The Stand We Must Take

Domestic violence does more than hurt one person — it wounds families, especially the children. When a child lives in a home with domestic abuse, they might see fights, hear screaming or blows behind closed doors, or deal with its aftermath. These experiences can leave scars that last into adulthood — anxiety, trust issues, trouble in school, or repeating the cycle themselves. Office on Women's Health+2PMC+2

Some numbers:

  • Between 3.3 million and 10 million children in the U.S. are exposed to domestic violence each year. dvsn.org+1

  • Over 15 million children live in homes where partner violence happens at least once per year. dvcccpa.org

  • In nearly 1 in 4 court-filed domestic violence cases, children witness the abuse. The Hotline

  • Roughly 22% of people have been assaulted by an intimate partner in their lives. domesticviolenceresearch.org+1

At I.A.M.U, we refuse to let domestic violence be a silent destroyer. We are taking a stand:

  • Education & awareness — We host workshops, webinars, and community talks to teach youth and families what healthy relationships look like, how to spot warning signs, and where to reach out for help.

  • Support services — We offer counseling, safe referrals, mentoring, and emotional support to youth affected by abuse.

  • Advocacy — We partner with legal, social service, and community organizations to ensure victims and their kids have access to protection, resources, and justice.

  • Prevention programs — We work early with youth to teach healthy communication, conflict resolution, self-worth, and respect.

Domestic violence does more than leave bruises — it robs children of safety, peace, and their right to grow in secure environments. But change is possible. We believe in a future where every child can grow free from fear, where every voice is heard, and where victims are supported, not silenced.

If you or someone you know is in danger, reach out for help. You are not alone.
